NBN Statement: Congress Passes H.R. 1865, the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020

This week, the House of Representatives and Senate voted on a package outlining the budget for Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20). This $1.4 trillion spending deal includes increased funding for bilateral and multilateral programs seeking to alleviate the burden of malaria globally, such as the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (Global Fund) and key UN agencies that are working on the frontlines.

MALARIA ERADICATION: WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO GET BACK ON TRACK

After a 3-year study of trends and future projections for the factors and determinants of malaria, WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group on Malaria Eradication (SAGme) released the executive summary of its report. In summary, SAGme reaffirms that eradication is a goal worth pursuing and would save millions of lives and billions of dollars but cautions that we are far from a malaria-free world.

Argentina is Declared Malaria-Free: UN Foundation Congratulates the Country and Calls for Continued Global Progress

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) certified Argentina as malaria-free at a pivotal moment in the fight against malaria. After five years of strong leadership under Dr. Mark Dybul, we look forward to working in partnership with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria’s new Executive Director Peter Sands.
