Interceptor® G2

For a few months now, we’ve discussed a growing threat facing the global fight against malaria -insecticide resistance. Overcoming this challenge is especially crucial in a world where a child still dies every two minutes from malaria. Fortunately, our partners in the private sector continue to develop innovative new products designed to save lives by fighting insecticide-resistant mosquitoes.

BASF, a global leader in chemical development, has recently developed a new generation mosquito net called the Interceptor® G2. The Interceptor® G2 introduces a new class of insecticide to public health, a pyrrole called chlorfenapyr, in combination with alphacypermethrin. The new net is highly effective against insecticide resistant mosquitoes and is the first product based on a new insecticide class to receive an interim recommendation from the World Health Organization (WHO) in more than 30 years. This exciting new development is the result of a collaboration with the Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine over the past decade, showing the power of public-private partnerships to drive breakthrough innovations in the fight against deadly diseases like malaria.
