RAISE YOUR VOICE

Contact Congress and be heard today.

We are still facing a critical gap in funding to fight malaria, and we need people like you to contact your members of Congress and urge them to continue the progress we’ve made.

The U.S. government is the largest contributor to programs that combat malaria through its support for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the President’s Malaria Initiative, as well as the work of UN agencies like the World Health Organization, UNICEF and UNHCR. Our government is a leader in malaria prevention in part because of the efforts of citizens like you who care enough to raise their voices on this important issue.

Your voice is critical in this fight.

Use Storytelling to Speak Out

United to Beat Malaria supporter and father of two Jeff Girod remembers traveling to malaria endemic regions as a child where he slept under a net with his parents. Unfortunately, Jeff’s father contracted dengue, a mosquito borne illness, and passed away from medical complications. Jeff shared this powerful story with Congresswoman Judy Chu and encouraged her to record a video stating her support for the President’s Malaria Initiative and the Global Fund that provide critical funding for eradicating other mosquito borne illnesses like malaria. In addition, Jeff invited Congresswoman Chu to speak at the 2016 United to Beat Malaria Summit in Washington, D.C. where the Congresswoman attributed her actions on speaking out about the devastating impacts of malaria to Jeff’s advocacy awareness.

Use Storytelling to Speak Out

A month after champions met with Congressman Beto O’Rourke on Capitol Hill for the 2016 United to Beat Malaria Champion Summit, United to Beat Malaria received a donation from Congressman O’Rourke! United to Beat Malaria champion Mary Mathis met with Congressman O’Rourke in person six months later where the Congressman discussed traveling with President Obama and recounted their conversation about the impact of NBA all-star Stephen Curry’s engagement with United to Beat Malaria. United to Beat Malaria supporters continued to engage Congressman O’Rourke including during town hall meetings to get him on the record about our issues, where he publicly praised the work of the campaign.
