Bill Gates Recognizes Nothing But Nets in Newsweek

June 21, 2017

In the new October 1, 2007 issue of Newsweek, Bill Gates reflects on the improvements in global health that he has witnessed around the world over the past decade. He mentions the world’s victories of eliminating smallpox, guinea-worm disease, and nearly polio, and also acknowledges advancements in malaria prevention. In the commentary, Gates commends Nothing But Nets and the progress we have made, thanks to our supporters! Gates said, “I’m amazed by the work of the Nothing But Nets campaign, which has managed through Web-based marketing to raise $13 million—mostly from young people—for insecticide-treated bed nets.”

Bill and Melinda Gates created a foundation in 2000 that is dedicated to reducing inequities around the world, and has pledged billions of dollars to worldwide health projects aimed at tackling diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, respiratory diseases, and malaria. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has quickly become a major influence upon global health, especially in malaria prevention.

Last January, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation pledged a matching grant to Nothing But Nets to match up to $3 million in donations- dollar for dollar, net for net. They originally gave us three years to fulfill the matching grant, but we met their goal in only eight months.

Thank you Bill Gates for recognizing the life-saving work of the Nothing But Nets supporters!
