Today, more than 6,000 soccer players, youth and adults alike, and more than 10,000 spectators will descend upon Disney’s Wide World of Sports® Complex in Orlando, Florida, to participate in the Kick It 3v3 World Championships. And what’s more, they will have the opportunity to send a net and save a life!
With Major League Soccer Stars on hand – including Dwayne De Rosario, Diego Gutierrez, Jimmy Conrad and Kevin Hartman – we will be raising funds all day long to send life-saving bed nets to Africa, specifically to refugee camps in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Sudan.
The best part is, 3v3 Kick It teams have already been getting in the game to prevent malaria. Since the fall, soccer teams have been raising funds through the Kick It NET-Raiser team and by creating their own NET-Raiser teams to recruit their friends and family to join the cause. Team Buzzkill blew away the competition by raising funds for 210 bed nets! Team Buzzkill, as well as the other top fundraising teams, have won the chance to meet the MLS Stars during a private meet and greet tonight at Epcot® (fireworks included!).
We’re looking forward to a great day in the Magic Kingdom, bringing together soccer players and soccer stars in the global effort to prevent malaria.
