Last week, the Nothing But Nets team joined the 2012 Junior Chamber International (JCI) Global Partnership Summit in New York. The gathering united members of JCI, a worldwide membership-based organization of young people creating positive change in the world, with business and government leaders to explore solutions to the challenges of the Millennium Development Goals. Nothing But Nets Director Chris Helfrich spoke about creative ways to build productive partnerships for social good. Chris also helped educate members about malaria prevention and new ways to incorporate advocacy into JCI fundraising. We debuted our zany new public service announcement starring malaria Champion Rep. Jeff Fortenberry of Lincoln, Nebraska to the JCI crowd. They loved watching the antics of University of Nebraska Cornhusker mascot Lil’ Red and minor league baseball mascot Homer the Haymarket Hound battling our very own Mozzie the Mosquito! Check it out here!
After an energizing day at the summit, we took part in a Nothing But Nets charity meet-and-greet hosted by a local JCI chapter at a restaurant overlooking Times Square. There, fashion designers strutted their stuff wearing clothing made from bed nets. All proceeds from the fashion show and bed net couture will go toward sending life-saving bed nets to keep families in Africa safe from malaria. We thank JCI for their amazing partnership, and are always excited to stand with them in the fight against malaria!
