This week in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Delhi, India, several thousand young leaders from across the globe have come together at Junior Chamber International’s World Congress. Representing 115 countries, these business leaders and entrepreneurs are finding ways to leverage their unique assets to help make change in the world. And this afternoon that us just what they did.
Within just a few short minutes, more than $40,000 was raised for bed nets from JCI national organizations – including JCI Burkina Faso, JCI Mali and JCI Netherlands – which committed $20,000 alone.
An energy had filled the room such that as JCI President Graham Hanlon called on individual national organizations to make their commitments, the audience erupted into applause after each one was announced.
There was even an auction for a sample bed net. In the end it was JCI Syria who won with a bid of $1,000.
With such an incredible rally, JCI has now raised enough funds to send over 10,000 bed nets – and this is just the beginning! Over the next year, JCI national organizations will continue to find new ways to engage their members and communities around the world, so that by next year’s World Congress in Tunisia, they will be announcing even more gains toward their goal of sending 1 million nets!
