Countdown to the Champion Summit: Meet Eileen Priddy!

June 7, 2017

Hey friends – Mozzie here, reporting to you from Nothing But Nets’ D.C. headquarters with a Champion insider story, hot off the press!  I’ve had the chance to chat with Champions of all levels–from advanced to beginners–and I’ve learned that no matter what your background or experience level is, anyone can become a stellar Champion in the fight to defeat malaria. Even a mosquito like me!

Read on to find out what I uncovered when I got the chance to chat with one of our 2015 recruits, Eileen Priddy. Eileen joined the Champions Council in July and has hit the ground running. She became inspired to join the Nothing But Nets family after participating in a medical mission trip to Haiti in 2012. As the educational liaison, she helped put together a handbook in Haitian Creole including WHO guidelines on malaria prevention and treatment. More recently in 2015, she met with Senator Toomey’s office and with Congressman Rothfus himself to spread the word about Nothing But Nets and ask that Congress raise funding for malaria programs.

Eileen’s energy is infectious, her passion is palpable, and she is counting down the days until she’s in Washington, D.C. for the Champion Summit 2016!

Mozzie: So Eileen, tell us about yourself! What inspired you to get involved with Nothing But Nets

Eileen: I am the mother of 3, grandmother of 2, and have a HUGE heart for people. After a mission trip to Haiti, and seeing the hearts of the people and their struggles, I knew I had to go deeper than just sending money to organizations I support. I hope I will be able to look back and say, “Yeah, I did my small part and now there’s no more malaria in the world.”

Mozzie: What are you looking forward to most about the Champion Summit?

Eileen: I’m excited to be surrounded by others who are as passionate about this effort as I am! I am a workaholic and feed off of the energy of others so I anticipate learning so much my head spins and filling multiple notebooks with information and ideas. (Then get to bring them home and implement them!)

Mozzie: What do you hope to get out of the Summit?

Eileen: I want to know more about the refugee situation in Central African Republic and how we are helping.  I want to network and find out if there are opportunities for me to be hands on and boots on the ground, and what that would look like.

Mozzie: Have you been to DC before? Why will this trip be different?

Eileen: I have! I think it is a fascinating city. It will be interesting to experience it differently – as a change maker, not just a tourist.

Mozzie: If you were a superhero, what superpower would you choose and why?

Eileen: Teleportation for sure – no more waiting in traffic!! I HATE to sit still and waste time.
