At Nothing But Nets, our corporate partners are vital to our mission of defeating malaria. Their generosity helps us reach thousands more each year with critical malaria prevention and treatment services. That’s why we are so excited to introduce to you the newest member of the Nothing But Nets family; Gotswach.
Gotswach produces one-of-a-kind handbags using repurposed fabric swatches that typically end up in a landfill. At the core of Gotswach is the belief that every human being deserves to have the basic essentials to live. For every purse sold, Gotswach sends a mosquito net to a family at risk of malaria. They also donate to bring clean water to those without access to clean drinking and bathing water.
Learn more about the founder of Gotswach, Jan Marini-Rossi, and why she’s helping us step up the fight against this deadly disease:
Tell us a little about yourself?
I grew up in the Boston area until my mid 20’s and married a military man and had two beautiful children. We moved around a lot because of the Navy and spent three years in Japan which I absolutely loved. My love for art, design and sewing is what I thrived on and was always looking for a way to be more creative. A few years ago, I worked for a company that later closed their doors which is when I came up with the idea to reimagine their furniture swatches and designed the “Gotswach Bags”.
How did you first hear about Nothing But Nets?
I’ve always had a deep need to help others. I started sponsoring children in Honduras and Ecuador in my thirties and donating to St. Judes Hospital so when I was thinking about starting my business, I knew I wanted it to involve charity. I knew mosquito nets were sent to countries to save people’s lives, so I researched it and found Nothing But Nets.
What inspires you the most about Nothing But Nets?
What inspires me the most about NBN is how you can take such a simple idea “the net” and turn it into such a lifesaving solution to help people less fortunate. I just love what they do.
What would you say to others who might be considering becoming a supporter?
It is such a simple way to make a huge impact and for such a low cost that actually saves lives. What is better than that? Nothing, if you ask me. I am just excited to grow my business so more people can benefit from it. Hopefully one day no one will be dying from malaria.
We’re so grateful to have Jan and her team at Gotswach alongside us in the fight to end malaria. Be sure to check out her incredible products on their website at https://gotswach.myshopify.com/.
