US Malaria Champions Unite to Virtually Advocate on Capitol Hill

Thank you to all the Champions who raised their voices in support of life-saving global malaria programs as part of our virtual Advocacy Day on September 8th! Because of your efforts, Meetings with Congress were a massive success! Champions representing 27 states held 78 meetings with Members of Congress, advocating for full funding for the President’s Malaria Initiative and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria.  

There is so much at stake in 2022. Even before COVID-19, the fight against malaria was getting harder. Things like insecticide and drug resistance have threatened our path to elimination and require us to innovate to stay on track. As malaria rates rise globally, the Global Fund Replenishment and PMI’s new 5-year strategy represent golden opportunities to get the world back on track towards eradication.  

Over the years, your persistent advocacy has helped build bipartisan support and secured steady increases in US funding for vital malaria programs. In 2022, your advocacy is more important than ever. At our September Advocacy Day, our Champions sent a resounding message to Congress that the fight against malaria is a priority in their communities across the country.
