Today is a huge day for Nothing But Nets – we just announced at the Clinton Global Initiative a new partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to send 275,000 bed nets to more than 630,000 people living in Uganda, Eastern Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania.
This will be an enormous undertaking, but we’re excited to get started, and we’re hoping you’ll join us to make this happen! Refugees are the most vulnerable population to contracting malaria, and they need these bed nets now, before it’s too late. Learn more about this new campaign here.
What’s even cooler is that one of our star youth supporters, Katherine Commale, will be live on CNN in less than an hour with her mom, Lynda, to talk about her involvement with Nothing But Nets and how important it is to send nets and save lives. Be sure to check your local TV guide to see Katherine around 2p.m.!
There is so much you can learn from this amazing commitment that we’re embarking on. We have all kinds of support from world leaders and philanthropists to eliminate malaria deaths by 2015, including presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and more. Check out this blog from the UN Foundation’s Executive Vice President Kathy Bushkin Calvin, where in she talks about this urgent need for bed nets and how everyone is getting in on the effort to make it happen.
Stay tuned as we begin to send nets and save the lives of refugees. You can help.
