Kick It Malaria Challenge is a success

As a part of the Kick It Malaria Challenge, Nothing But Nets and MLS W.O.R.K.S. traveled to Orlando last Saturday and were joined by 6,000 youth soccer players, 25,000 soccer fans and 4 Major League Soccer players to raise awareness about malaria and raise funds for life-saving bed nets for refugees.

Bed nets in Beantown

Today we started our 14th Nothing But Nets City Tour in Boston and we hope to meet you while we’re out there! We’ll be in the New England neighborhood until January 29th, so there are plenty of opportunities to see you at our various events.

Could it be possible to save lives by playing games?

For those of you who played our game Deliver the Net last year for World Malaria Day, you know the answer to this question is yes. Thousands of people across the country delivered virtual nets, and with help from a generous sponsor, we were able to send more bed nets and save lots more lives from malaria.

Boston brings it for Nets

Boston was truly an amazing city tour. The Museum of Science allowed us to put up a bed net display in a key location in their lobby and this enabled us to speak with hundreds of very engaged people, both young and old.

I slept under a bed net last night. It’s not the first time I have done so, but it somehow seemed so perfect, knowing that while I was sleeping under this blue net within the UNHCR compound in Dadaab, Kenya, women and children in the Ifo Refugee Camp were doing the very same.

Providing nets for new arrivals

Of the three refugee camps in Dadaab, Dagahaley is the only one registering new arrivals. Dagahaley does not have any more space than the other camps – like Ifo and Hagadera, it is overstretched with a population of more than 85,000 on land that should be holding only 30,000.
