World Refugee Day: Meet Achol

Our team met Achol while visiting the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, located on a searing, inhospitable patch of land near the border with South Sudan. Achol was standing in line with her children at a new-arrivals area to receive food, water, medicine, and bed nets. A week earlier, her husband was killed in the country’s ongoing civil war.

Ebola Is Back: What We Can Do About It

Ebola is back.  A new outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has swelled to nearly 60 cases and left 27 dead as of this week.  Worse still, a confirmed case has reached Mbandaka, a densely populated port city on the Congo River where 1.2 million people live.  Mbandaka is 250 miles away from the village where the original Ebola case in this outbreak was identified, underscoring how quickly this virus can spread if left unchecked.
