This week, the House of Representatives and Senate voted on a package outlining the budget for Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20). This $1.4 trillion spending deal includes increased funding for bilateral and multilateral programs seeking to alleviate the burden of malaria globally, such as the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (Global Fund) and key UN agencies that are working on the frontlines.

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) released its 2019 World Malaria Report, an annual report that provides a comprehensive update on global and regional malaria data and trends. The report tracks investments in malaria programs and research as well as progress across all intervention areas: prevention, diagnosis, treatment and surveillance. We’ve taken a look at the report, and here’s what you need to know.

Fleeing violence in 2014, Ousmanou’s family was forced to wade through miles of forest and overcome multiple tropical diseases to reach Gado camp. Today, her joy comes from seeing her children – now aged 15, 14, 7, 4 and 1 – run off to school as she stays back to take care of her youngest child.

United to Beat Malaria

Today members of the global community gathered in Lyon, France to pledge resources for the Sixth Replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, seeking a targeted investment of at least US$14 billion over the next three-year period.

Today, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved Fiscal Year 2020 funding for State and Foreign Operations and related programs. The funding bill included increased appropriations for bilateral and multilateral programs seeking to alleviate the burden of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases.
