Yesterday in Washington, the head of the World Health Organization, Dr. Margaret Chan, said at a news conference that to date there have been at least 3,500 Ebola cases, with more than 1,900 deaths. She called the outbreak “the largest and most severe and most complex we’ve ever seen in the nearly 40-year history of this disease.”

Each year, the Netherlands chapter of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) hosts a regatta, a boat race, in Croatia.  JCI members from across Europe attend the three-day race. Teams from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, and Turkey compete in six separate boat races. This year, 100 people participated, filling 11 yachts.

The 2014 Social Good Summit just wrapped up, and the best word to describe it is inspiring. As leaders gather at the United Nations to address shared global challenges, citizens from Tunisia to Gaza to Ukraine to Sudan to the United States spoke about how citizens can use technology and social media to create a better world for all by 2030.

Over the summer, Nothing But Nets partnered with JCI USA on its second-annual BzzzTour to travel from coast to coast, encouraging elected officials, JCI USA chapters, and communities nationwide to join the fight against malaria. This year’s BzzzTour visited more than 100 JCI chapters across 20 states, with major stops in Nashville, Des Moines, St. Louis, Seattle, Houston, and Washington D.C.

Recently, the Nothing But Nets campaign attended a panel discussion on Capitol Hill which highlighted how some of the global leaders in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria are working hand-in-hand to accelerate progress and ensure sustainability against these diseases.

During the summer of 2011, middle school student Kevin Strickland from Springfield, Virginia was inspired by a Nothing But Nets ad he saw on Hulu. Later that year, Kevin was assigned a service learning project for his civics class.

On September 28-29, Nothing But Nets hosted its Champion Summit in Washington, DC, the largest supporter conference in the campaign’s history! The Summit convened 160 grassroots supporters from 30 states, along with several of our partners, for two days of inspiring speakers, valuable trainings, and meaningful actions in the fight against malaria.
