The Buffalo Grove Varsity Soccer Team in Buffalo Grove, IL recently held a fundraiser for Nothing But Nets. Here’s what they told us:
Our Buffalo Grove Varsity Soccer Team got together at the start of the season to discuss our community service opportunities during our first team dinner. We looked at the Pepsi Showdown site and saw that the theme of the Pepsico Showdown Tournament was Go Big or Go Home, so we decided to look global.
We chose Nothing But Nets because World Malaria Day is April 25 and April is also “Save a Life Month,” so it all fit together. We wanted to help Nothing But Nets send bed nets to families in Africa to protect them from malaria, a deadly disease caused by mosquitoes.
We made a video announcement and put up posters to advertise. We sold t-shirts during our lunch hours at school, and contacted our friends, family, and community members to buy shirts as well. We also went to social media to raise awareness for the cause. Our whole soccer program joined in the effort and many attended our Buzzkill Game in the freezing cold to support us.
It feels great to know that we were able to make a difference and provided bed nets for over 300 families!
Here’s the Buffalo Grove Varsity Soccer Team roster. Thanks ladies!
